    FIFO Inventory Warehouse

First-In, First-Out only works if the system enforces it. We stamp a receipt date on every pallet, direct picks to the oldest stock, and report inventory aging so nothing quietly dies in the back of a rack.

What FIFO Means in a Real Warehouse

FIFO is easy to promise and hard to execute, because the newest pallet is always the easiest one to reach. The fix is systemic: date-stamped license plates, directed picking that names a specific pallet, and rack layout that does not force a picker to break the rule to get their job done.

Many clients also pair this with Pallet Storage Los Angeles, Extensiv WMS 3PL, and Lot Tracking Warehouse.

    Date-Stamped Receiving

Every inbound pallet gets a license plate carrying its receipt date, so age is a data field rather than an estimate.

    Directed Picking

The WMS names the specific pallet and location to pick, defaulting to the oldest receipt — picker discretion is removed from the equation.

    Aging Reports

Inventory aging by SKU and lot, so slow movers surface while there is still time to promote, bundle, or liquidate them.

    Rack Layout for Rotation

Selective racking and staged replenishment mean the oldest stock is reachable, not buried behind three newer pallets.

    FIFO vs FEFO Selection

For dated goods we can switch the rule to expiration-first (FEFO) per SKU, rather than forcing one policy across your whole catalog.

    Cycle Count Verification

Recurring counts confirm that physical rotation matches system rotation, with variance reporting shared with you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Receipt dates are bound to each pallet license plate at receiving, and the WMS directs pickers to the oldest qualifying pallet by location — the rule is enforced by the system, not by memory.

FIFO rotates by receipt date; FEFO rotates by expiration date. FIFO suits durable goods, while FEFO is the right rule for food, beverage, supplements, and cosmetics with printed expiry dates.

Yes. Aging reports by SKU and lot are available in the client portal so you can act on slow-moving stock before it becomes dead stock.

It does not carry a separate line item for most accounts — it is how we run receiving and picking by default. Specialized rotation requirements are scoped during quoting.

Yes. Rotation rules are set at the SKU level, so a mixed catalog of durable and dated goods can run both policies at once.

Cycle counts and pick audit trails tie each shipped unit back to a dated pallet, so rotation compliance is auditable rather than assumed.
